other people might say that the philosophy of indifference is at the heart of policies advocated by people who believe it is ok for state oppression to be brought against citizens because these philosophizing people think they possess some kind of morally superior thinking that makes it ok for them to insert their militant, dictatorial notions on individuals who are minding their own business–such self-righteous folks are INDIFFERENT to the moral repugnance of their own hegemony.
not uncommonly, these confused folks will pick an easy straw man like “the rich” and, instead of doing the morally responsible thing (freely giving their OWN money to the poor)these self-righteous blowhards instead engage in the morally reprehensible behavior of proposing that the state steal from “the rich” to give to the poor.
this would be easier to swallow, as perhaps simply misguided good intentions, if there was not so much recent evidence that these folks have a bad habit of NOT giving as much to poor people as more “libertarian” folks do.
The poor just have too much money, and the rich don’t have enough. That must be why rich people
favor a Steve Forbes tax scheme.
BTW – everything I’ve read shows that the rich do indeed live up to their reputation for being stingy, and that it’s the middle and lower-middle
classes who give the greatest percentage of their
income to support charitable work.
Right-wing propagandists never miss an opportunity to label help for the needy as somehow stealing money from the rich. I guess they need something to try and justify the on-going class warfare…which they have been winning since St. Ronnie’s administration.
