The Tyler Rose’s ordeal

campbell_1955.jpgIn the late 1970’s, Earl Campbell ushered in a generation of outstanding running backs from Texas and he remains the standard by which power runners are evaluated. However, the pounding that Earl took during his playing career has taken a heavy toll. As Jay Christensen and Tom Dienhart report, the Tyler Rose is badly crippled despite the fact that he has just turned 50 years of age (a related Chip Brown/Dallas Morning News article is here).
Given Campbell’s condition, this recent Chronicle story looks even sillier than it did at the time it ran.

  1. While the previous Chronicle article does seem to be a bit of a puff piece, I have a relative that went to the “Witch Doctor” in Waco and was very impressed.
From what I understand, Earl went to John Patterson only once with some major success and then never came back for further needed treatments. This could be for many reasons, but I think Earl has made some questionable decisions at some points about his own health.
Do you really think of this guy as a quack given his success with Tracy McGrady and so many others? There were two NY Giants coming in two see him this week.
My relative is not fully recovered from her problems but seems to think he is on the right track. Just curious on your thoughts. I am a huge Earl Cambell fan and it does kill me to see him in his current condtion.
