I always thought that it was Brad Lidgeís fault that Albert Pujols in Game Six of the 2005 NLCS caused Houstonians to endure memories of these sporting disasters again.
But now, former Stros 3B Morgan Ensberg reveals that it was all really the fault of an optical illusion at Minute Maid Park (H/T John Royal).
Who knew?
By the way, check out the 2005 list of the Stros top ten prospects.
No wonder the local club is struggling.

That “optical illusion” reference to Garner was very kind, but overly kind in my view.
Are we really supposed to believe that a great — or even good — tactical manager is “tricked” by an “optical illusion” in his own ballpark? Do you think that happens to Tony LaRussa very often? Or even when he first moved in to the Cards’ pretty new park? I’m thinking not.
Ensberg was being diplomatic/polite, but he was really only confirming that Garner was a pretty poor tactician. But a good manager of people, to be fair.
