Vitals

hpDoctorVitals is an ambitious project — providing free information and patient ratings on doctors throughout the U.S.

I’ve checked on a number of my doctor friends and every one of them is included in the database, so it appears to be quite thorough. Inasmuch as the project is quite new, there are not many patient reviews yet. But the information provided is cleanly presented and quite helpful.

My sense is that this is a very good idea.

  1. The basic data appears to be correct.
I did find several retired physicians with active pages.
I doubt the ratings information will have much value.

  2. The ratings will be necessarily anecdotal, but that’s still helpful. Also, the ratings on the way in which doctor’s offices are run could be particularly helpful. Given two doctors of relatively equal quality, I would prefer going to the one with the better-run office.

  3. I looked myself up. Multiple errors are present.
I am listed as a Psychiatrist – I am a Board Certified Internal Medicine physician.
I am listed as having completed an Internal Medicine residency at the OU College of Medicine. Actually, I went to medical school there, but did my IM residency at UT Houston under the tutelage of Tom’s father, Walter Kirkendall.
I am listed as affiliated with King’s Daughters Hospital in Temple. I last practiced at this hospital in 2006. My current hospital affiliation is not listed.
I am listed as having 68 publications. Actually, I only have 12 papers published, but none of these 12 are listed – I do not know any of the authors of the 68 included here.
But, the website did list correctly my home address and cell phone number – thanks for sharing that info with the world, Vitals.
