Comedian Don McMillan nails it in this hilarious video. It’s a must view for anyone who has ever endured a bad PowerPoint presentation (is there anyone left who has not?). Hat tip to Craig Newmark.
Meanwhile, the WSJ’s ($) technology columnist Lee Gomes takes a look at the status of PowerPoint on its 20th (!) birthday.
Now that is some useful advice. I’m so glad I took a project management class where the instructor, whom I figured gave a lot of presentations, graded us on the clarity of our power point presentation. His biggest pet peeve was what the comedian stated, no more than four lines of text should ever be put on one slide at a time. The Second, reading from the power point, The Third, pictures that don’t have anything to do with text!
The last point may be confusing to some, but his anecdote went something like this:
“You do have a beautiful [Child/Dog/Pet Bird], but what does that have to do with why this stock is dropping? Obviously you are the cause and are trying to distract us with the picture of your [Child/Dog/Pet Bird]!”
