A 50-year energy plan

  1. I’m sad to say that I don’t know much about most of the things he’s talking about in this survey. But he did mention 2 things I understand well, and he’s wrong about both. Namely, he’s wrong about the costs and profitability of residential solar (the panels don’t work without subsidies and REC programs, they’re arguably not profitable even with them, and they are all free-riding on grid-reliability by taking advantage of the fact that so much grid energy pricing is done per-kwh), and he’s wrong about renewable diversification because he doesn’t consider the system inertia required to transmit it to the loads. His audience, which knows nothing about any of what he’s saying, will of course love this.
