Having spent almost 15 years in Lubbock, I had the opportunity to become immersed in Buddy Holly lore.
"Peggy Sue" is one of my favorite songs that Buddy and the Crickets did, primarily because I got to know Peggy Sue.
When the song originally was written, the title name was "Cindy Lou", but Jerry Allison, the Crickets drummer, was trying to impress his girlfriend, Peggy Sue Gerron, and convinced Buddy to change the name of the girl in the song.

I met Peggy Sue in the '90's, when she was the grandmother of a special needs child who went to elementary school with my kids. She was gracious and kind, and laughed about the whole deal about the song and her.
And, yes, I was one of those 48,000 who put on the plastic horn rimmed glasses and sung "Peggy Sue" that day in Jones Stadium. Still got those glasses somewhere at home.
Thanks for helping to kindle those memories, Big T.
