Big Game at the Loch
My old friends Chris Tomlin, one of the stars of the contemporary Christian music world, and John David Walt, Vice President of Community Life and Dean of the Chapel at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, came into town this week to lead The Woodlands United Methodist Church's Good Friday service this evening at the fabulous Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands.
Whenever Chris ("C.T.") and J.D. hit town, it's a good excuse for a Big Golf Game, and our usual course of choice is Houston's Lochinvar Golf Club. Here are a few pictures of Lochinvar that I took as C.T., J.D. and I enjoyed a wonderful round of golf and fellowship on a picture perfect day with J.D.'s father, David Walt, and friends Bruce Clinton and Pat Murphy.
This is the view of some of Lochinvar's fine azaleas overlooking the 18th green from the driveway next to the clubhouse.
J.D. snakes in a tricky, downhill eight footer to save par on the 3rd hole after a great read by caddie Darrell.
C.T. begins to unleash a powerful drive on the par 5 9th hole.
The approach shot that C.T. faced on the 9th under intense betting pressure.
The approach shot to the par five 6th hole (key tip: Don't hook it).
Beautiful flowers in the back of the 7th hole teebox.
This is the 157 yard second shot that I faced after a massive drive on the 425 yard 4th hole (the second shot did not turn out as well as the drive).
The 12th green through the trees from the 2nd green.
Springtime is wonderful in Houston!

Why is it the 2nd shot after a massive, perfectly placed drive, never seems to match the initial effort? Why, why?
Nice pictures.

Banjo, as Dan Jenkins put it about that aspect of golf: "It's part of the charm."

Nice pictures. Golf is such a cool game. Too bad I can't even hit the ball consistently.

Tom -
The Loch is a magical place, almost Augusta-esque, and the pictures, while beautiful, really don't do the track justice.
However, there were two surprises as I reviewed the pics.
One is that Darrell is still alive.
The second is that y'all appeared to be playing the forward set of tees. Hmmm.....

Jim Bob, not only is Darrell still alive, he has lost 80 pounds over the past two years and has done a good job of keeping the weight off.
And about playing the middle tees, I am an accomodating host. ;^)
